Getting started
Install Clautron, point it at an AI provider, and ship your first feature in under five minutes.
Requirements
- WordPress 6.4 or higher
- PHP 8.1 or higher
- An API key from at least one AI provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, xAI Grok) — or a local Ollama instance
Installation
- Upload the
clautronfolder to/wp-content/plugins/— or install from WordPress.org. - Activate the plugin from Plugins → Installed Plugins.
- Go to Clautron → Settings and configure your AI provider.
Settings
Navigate to Clautron → Settings to configure your AI provider. Select which provider Clautron uses to generate blueprints:
| Provider | What you need | Default model |
|---|---|---|
| Anthropic (Claude) | Anthropic API key | claude-sonnet-4-6 |
| OpenAI | OpenAI API key | gpt-4o |
| xAI (Grok) | xAI API key | grok-3 |
| Ollama | Local Ollama instance URL | llama3.2 |
Only the natural language prompts you type in the AI Assistant are sent to the provider. No WordPress content, posts, users, or site data is transmitted. See Safety & security.
Ollama (local AI)
If you run Ollama locally, set the Base URL to http://localhost:11434. No API key is required for local instances. For remote Ollama instances secured with an API key, enter the key in the Ollama API Key field.
Your first feature
- Go to Clautron → AI Assistant.
- Type what you want — for example: "Add an internal notes field to posts and pages, visible only in the admin".
- Clautron generates a blueprint and asks you to confirm.
- Click Activate — the feature is now live on your site.
That's it. The metabox, column, and any other components are registered automatically. Continue with the AI Assistant page for prompt-writing tips.
